I was born in 1963 in Baghdad, Iraq and began my unexpected travels at age ten when a family vacation to Beirut turned into two years of exile. In 1975, my family fled the Lebanese civil war for Detroit, and I later settled in Brooklyn, New York, earning a BFA at Pratt Institute in 1989. Following graduation, I worked with painting and photography, integrating the processes to produce large, intricate photo-paintings. In 1997, I entered the world of advertising, working as a photographer and digital artist. I was hired as a staff photographer at LLNS, a leading healthcare advertising agency, in 2001. Increasingly drawn to documentary photography, I traveled across America and through India and Nepal in 2005, taking daily photographs that captured my relationship to people and remote places. I recently completed my MFA at the International Center of Photography-Bard College, Program in Advanced Photographic Studies, where my solo thesis show, Now, Now, Again and Again, Every Moment, Already, exhibited at the ICP-Bard MFA Gallery in Long Island City, NY.
